Travelling to Italy with a toddler

Before we set off, lots of our family and friend's told us that Italy was the perfect place to travel to and through with kids and they were so right! Whilst physically it might not be set up for travelling with kids and pushchairs in places, the kindness, friendliness and support everyone showed us as a family really made it a brilliant place to explore with our toddler.

We flew from Birmingham to Pisa and then back from Naples to Birmingham with plenty of trains in between. We aimed to travel light but still took advantage of the two free pieces of baby equipment that came with the free infant seat. At both airports we were able to keep hold our our travel pushchair until we got to the tarmac where we handed it over to a baggage handler.

Birmingham Airport does have a family lane ahead of Security for boarding pass scanning but then you're back into the main queue to wait your turn.

Naples Airport had a dedicated family lane for Security and it made it so much easier to navigate - look out for the family lane stickers and signs as you move around.

Naples Airport and Jet2 were also fantastic at spotting us and pulling us out of the crowd as we queued to go through the gate. They took us to a quiet area at the front alongside the Priority entrance where our toddler was much calmer and we were able to sit and wait for the gate to open.

Travelling with a toddler is always daunting, especially taking them on a plane where they just don't have the space they want to run around and explore. However, don't let that stop you, it is only a few hours after all (and you probably won't see any of those people again). I can already see the positive impact that a weeks exploring in another country has had on our toddler and I am spurred on to take him more places in the future (I also want more amazing pasta!)
